I have an acer tree which is over 60 years old and the pride and joy of the whole Road. Last year the leaves on one side of the tree (south side) were dying and they have again this year. This year whole significant branches appear to be dying. Should the branches be removed? This will alter the shape of the tree and I do not want to lose it.

I would take it out back to good leaves to save it . it will take a while to reshape but better than loosing it . that's just my opinion .
