THE SPACE AT THE FOOT OF A QUINCE
Last year I planted a quince. It has done well and after being covered with pink, beautiful blossom it now has four large golden yellow fruit. My question is .... it is growing in a lawn with a clear space of earth around the trunk of the tree about 4 feet in diameter. I have planted cosmos around the tree this year but this autumn I plan to plant a ring of small narcissi for spring colour. But what else can I plant that will be a perminent feature (like the narcissi) not grow large and plant at the same time as my bulbs? I am open to any suggestion. I would like the additional planting to give me some interest when the narcissimhas died back.

cyclamen for the autumn and C coum for spring. Iris reticulata, Anemone decaen are also perennial bulbs/corms that you can plant at the same time as your narcisuss.

How about forget-me -nots? Once you have them, they'll self seed and carry on... and on... but they're easily removed if they get too prolific. They look wonderful with Narcissus. You could also plant Triteleia which flower later.
