I think this is more of a ground cover rose rather than a rambler. It should really only need tidying up towards the end of winter (Go for St David's Day if the weather isn't to cold) - cut out any dead wood and trim back any over-long stems as these will root where they touch the ground (which is how the rose covers the ground)
