why do i appear to have another plant growing on the flower stem of my orchid large leaves just like a small plant, except 12 inches up the flower stem, what should i do with it please.

It's one of the ways that some Orchids reproduce - by producing babies (known as Keiki's) on the flowering stems. In the wild these would fall off as the flowering stem decayed and root wherever they land. If yours has little roots coming (and it will do eventually) then once the flowering stem had finished you can snip it off and pot up your baby - keep it very humid initially to encourage the new roots to form and establish well.
