Sounds like a Campanula of some sort. Might be C. trachelium (Nettle Leaved Bellflower) or C. glomerata (Clustered Bellflower which does have upright flowers).
As Sg says, a picture would be invaluable.

as a weed is any plant where you dont want it it could well be.
A photo would help identify it.
