Watching out for a pink Lavandula stoechas.

West Somerset, England Eng

I have an elderly pink French Lavender plant bought at a market stall several years ago. It's a tall variety, with magenta on the flowers and pink 'wings'. Unfortunately, it has got woody and is on its last legs. I've tried cuttings with no success (so far!) and am trying to replace it with NO SUCCESS. I have googled, searched Nurseries, Garden Centres etc but can't find one. please if anyone comes across one would you find out its name and where the supplier is so that I can get one? Thanks all.

Hi Spritzhenry. I'll be going (hopefully) to the Pembroke Show in a few weeks. Last year there was a stall there selling only lavenders - all sorts of different ones. I'll look out for it and get their address for you, they might just have this one. I hope it will be there again this year.

Spritz - check out www.norfolk-lavender.co.uk - they hold one of the UK National Collections of lavender (the other collection holders are listed on the NCCPG website).
Hope you find a replacement plant - Andrewr

I've got the seeds - not the right colour though. :-( I've tried Norfolk lavender, no luck :-( Good idea to try the other collection holders, thanks for that.

Still looking Spritz but I have seen a Bella Pink and Bella Rose which look good. We have a lavender festival near here so might be able to find out more through that. Will keep looking.

Thanks Sarah. The Collection holders turned out to be sites I had already looked at - so no joy there! I shall be grateful for any sightings!!!! LOL.

I noticed one of my favourite nurseries has added a couple of new lavenders which look hopeful despite the corny names: Ooh la lavender burgandy and Ooh la lavender pink. Check out this link for pictures: http://www.bigdipperfarm.com/cgi-bin/searchstuff.pl?Botanical=Lavandula This is a really good website for plant idenitification as the photos are great and the homepage lists everything by its botanical name.

Thanks Sarah - I did look, but of course it's the wrong country and I am not sure whether the expense and bureaucracy would be workable to send for one plant! It also worried me that the description called them 'augustifolia' but they are 'stoechas'. But you sound happy with this Nursery. Maybe they just made a slip-up. I shall make a note of the two names, though! Thanks!

Spritz - check out www.downderry-nursery.co.uk - they have several stoechas lavenders listed under the 'frost hardy' section including some pink ones. Any good?

Sorry Spritzhenry. I went to the Pemb. Show today and looked for the lavender stall as I said, but it wasn't there. In fact lots of stalls that are usually there were missing. I've heard they charge too much and small local busineses can't aford it. I would have thought the whole point of such events as this was to encourage people to buy local produce and crafts but it doesn't seem so.

Thanks to Andrew for his idea - no joy - and Hywel for looking for it for me. Everyone is being so kind! I really appreciate it.
