Ihave been called in as a prof.gardener to make over a garden for new owners of a property. The previous owners had created raused beds everywhere using real railway sleepers. The earth in the beds is dead, totally devoid of worms or anyother mini beasts. It is dull dry and brittle. There is no tilth. What can I do with it to improve the soil quality? Once the sleepers have gone I do welcome advice. Thanks

What was growing in the raised beds when you first looked at them, or when the owners moved in?

as an amateur I would dig in lots of compost to improve the quality of the soil. then what do your clients require from their garden? You must talk to them if you are to have a successful working partnership.
