can a hydrangea go into a normal compost or does it need ericaceous?

Ericaceous gives you blue flowers and limy soil pink flowers; or is it the other way round?

You got it the right way round, Bertie - if your hydrangea is blue, guest, you're better off using ericaceous compost - if it is any other colour, then multi purpose or John Innes No. 2 will be fine.

I have just bought Hydrangea macrophylla can anybody please yell me how hardy it is....
I also spent money on Ericaceous soil now reading this I need not have bothered....oh well better safe than sorry .
