Hi There,
I have just finished getting decking done and thought that a few hanging baskets would brighten it up a bit,but
I wonder if anybody has the same problem, when you are planting up hanging baskets do you find that the root ball on some plants that you buy are too big to try and squeese into the space and you end up damaging the plant. Well has anybody seen the Dr.Foster system?, I would be grateful if you have used it, and could let me know what you thought of it before I buy it, or has any one seen anything similar to it a bit cheaper (they are a bit expensive for a pensioner) but they could be worth the outlay. Thanks

All I know about these planters is - a friend tried them but couldnt get the bits to stay together - when she found one laying in bits on her door step she ditched them. Also you have to like a lot of green plastic when you plant them?
I never have a problem with planting up baskets but I did my baskets weeks ago! I cut my liners to go around the root or use moss as I go have you tried putting the root in rather than pushing the plant through? I think you will find its much easier next year when you do it earlier?

Hi Bamboo and Drc726
thanks for your comments and advice they are duly noted, Bamboo the Dr.foster system looks amazing but as Drc726 has said it is a lot plasticky but i think it would cover well if you planted it up the way they say but i dont know ,it is like hanging baskets for idiots it looks easy you should have a look at it just google dr.foster.
Anyway thanks for the help.
This is a pure dead brill site so it is as my grand son would say

Lol! I don't have any trouble doing baskets, so won't be looking for an alternative system - specially if its lots of plastic;-))

Do you think it was a set up?

Oh blimey, surely not, that never occurred to me - far too elaborate I'd have thought, and without much guarantee many people would see it.

Hi There,
Dear Bamboo and Drc762 I have to reply to both of you to say this was not a set up as implied by Drc726 all I asked was a simple question if anybody had seen or used the system and if so what they thought about it. I am in no way connected to this company what so ever. And I object to the implication that I am part of a "set up"

I, for one, never thought you were, Weejock, and I don't blame you for being annoyed.

Previous question
I've never heard of the Dr. Foster system, so can't comment on that, but will say that the way round this problem is to buy your bedding plants for baskets much earlier in the year, when they're in trays or as box bedding, available from April through to about end of May. Because they're in trays or boxes, they have much smaller rootballs making it easy to plant baskets in particular - they're also much cheaper bought this way. Plant them up in late May (where you live) and shelter them a bit till end of May or mid June if its cold.
