I now grow this as an annual, I have failed miserably to overwinter using mulch and straw to protect roots, you may be a bit warmer where you are, I would say protect as much as you can.

I'd agree, Dido - the only Coreopsis that seems to be reliably hardy here is C. vercillicata, whatever the breeders of the new ones say. I did manage to keep C. 'rosea' until last winter...'Limerock' ones also died.
