I have an 8ft Pieris, which flowered normally this year but is now losing its leaves and there are many dead looking branches near the bottom. Could it be at the end of its natural life or might it have a disease of some sort?

Water - you don't say where you are in the UK, but anywhere in the south, east or north east is drought ridden.

why on earth should you think it is going to die because of a few braches, where do you have it planted, are you watering it, feeding it, because sounds like it was ok earlier in the year, but since the hot weather started its dieing off...
