I have a mognolia tree. This year it looks like the flower buds are turning brown and lots of leaves are turning brown and droping. What could be the cause.

Where you are and indeed pretty much all of the eastern side of England is experiencing a drought and this is something that Magnolia's will struggle with. It may well be aborting the flowers and some leaves to relieve physiological stress and saving itself. Hopefully next year will not be so dry.
