I want to grow fruit trees in containers. I want sturdy and long-lasting containers. What are the best value?

I would much rather plant the fruit trees in the ground as they won't take as much looking after than container-grown subjects. It you are set on growing in containers, then the bigger the better so large, oak, half-barrels, lined with thick polythene with drainage holes in the bottom and supported with bricks.

You may like to use old steel/oil drums, which can be painted up if desired, or old dolly tubs, check out your local reclamation yard to see what they have, I use large old oil drums for a number of large shrubs, bamboo look great in them.
