yes its a contradiction in one sentence really . my verigated acer tree keeps trying to revert back to green but I keep having to cut the green ones out . to me that's the difference between a tree and a shrub . that is most trees have a main stem wear most shrubs have many . I didn't see the second copy sg .

We have the same problem with a contorted Hazel NP it produces straight sports that need to be removed at soil level.

Paulownia is generally grown from seed.....the damn things seed everywhere in my garden at work and i'm forever spraying them off in the cracks in paths and among the ornamentals.
They do have a habit of putting out long, fast growing whispy shoots which will develop into stems or branches if allowed to. Also, Paulownias are one of the trees that can be pruned (pollarded) hard back in order to get huge leaves, but at the expense of any flowers.
Personally Garry, i'd have no problems doing what you're asking.

Just like to add that Garry is in the states where conditions may be more favourable but i have Paulownias that have easily reached 10 foot in a year in southern UK....it was just a single stem though and no other energy was put into making any side growth or flowers. The leaves were at least 18" across though !!!!!
I have a 30 foot tree which is around 20 years old at work but it's a beautiful standard which flowers well each year

yes its quite difficult as my acre tree is getting tall now and the new dark green leaves always seam to at the top . ive seen a red acre which was half green and looked really interesting until I guess the green completely takes over . I planted a bonsai acre of 16 years and it was like it had gone yippee free at last bf and grew like really quickly and leggy bf .

Hi Garry and welcome to GoY. Are you sure your Paulowia isn't grafted onto a rootstock which is trying to take over? Can take up to 50 years to get to 75 foot so a growth of 15 foot in one year seems odd to me. Personally I'd be removing the 15 foot growth.
