Hi Aston,
I grow about 100 vars of clematis and wilting is my most frustrating issue! Always on the type 2, large flowering clems. There are several possibilities, Clematis Wilt is a fungal disease that is common in the plants and is a result of over hybridisation over the past couple of hundred years. When it strikes there's nothing to do except cut the whole lot off and wait for it to regrow from the roots. It will do this if it is planted nice and deep, but it may take a while. Wilt is not as common as folk think though....more usually the cause is wind damage, slug damage or....drought. Clems are hungry and thirsty plants and in weather like we have had for the last few months, they do need to be watered. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any more queries!
