The sparrows are eating my runner beans! They jump on the stems, weigh them down to the ground and then eat the flowers. Is this common? Should I net my beans?

Thanks for the answer. I've just tied a lot of old CD's to the plants, hoping that might work. Next time I'm in a DIY/Garden Centre, I'll buy some netting.

yes this is very common. you could net them and then there will less chance of them getting them. the birds like them for several reasons, a sugary drink and often little insects in the flower too.
