Me again !! I am not sure how to deadhead my Stocks (appleblossom variety) they are very compact flowers on the stems and I am not sure whether I take off the whole flower stem or just some of the flowers any ideas?

Just trim off any parts where the flowers are spent - if that's the whole stem, take that, if its just part, nip that out.

Thank you Bamboo for answering my many questions. I will tend to my stocks, now that the rain has finally stopped !! My bareroot hollyhocks are growing a treat now, and my begonias are beautiful. I will take photos of the begonias now that the flowers are in full bloom and send them to goy soon. It is great to get answers to problems from people who know so much about gardening. I love your garden

"Now that the rain has finally stopped" well, no need to rub it in, Mayamurdo, lol - I'm looking out my window at the playing field opposite which now resembles the Sahara desert... and it STILL hasn't rained, despite the promises of thundery showers overnight, not a drop has fallen.
