I have a problem with poplar tree roots which are coming from my next door neighbours trees which were cut down last year. the roots are lifting up our patio slabs and heading for the house . what shall i do = treat the stumps?

If the stumps are still present and are alive, then you can kill them off - you need a drill with a medium or large wood bit (depending on the size of stump), make holes quarter to half inch deep, fill them with SBK (brushwood killer) neat (wear gloves, don't spill it anywhere) cover with something and leave. You can treat any major roots like this too, if you can access them.
