We have a honeysuckle growing along fence in the garden. It was full of flower bud and I was so looking forward to seeing it flower. We do not know which variety it is, as the flower buds have all turned grey and dropped off before opening. I have seen a few aphids but not many. Could it be through lack of rain, although It has been watered every couple of days.

turned grey sounds like mildew infection - spray with a fungicide. Either that or its suffering drought - paradoxically, mildew is more likely when its very dry.
