Hagley Hybrid - does better out of bright sun, keeps it colour longer, and isn't a very large variety, reaching only 6 feet, so should do fine in a pot 18 inches deep. Needs pruning back to two buds in midwinter, or by mid February every year.

Take a look at Clematis Rebecca...it is a lovely clematis and a most beautiful red that shines in the sun. I have only grown it for one season but it seems happy in a pot and is facing south...south-west in my garden. This spring it has thrown out many new shoots so I have cut it back to the lowest growth.
I am hoping for good things. I keep the pot well watered and fed.
