does anybody know what these little hard-back beetles are and how to get rid of them. They seem to be on most but not all flowers in the garden.

They're pollen beetles, seems to be loads about this year, everyone's complaining - they don't do any harm, they're just eating the pollen, though I appreciate they do look a bit unsightly if they cover all the flowers. If you want to cut flowers for the house, do so and leave them somewhere dim with an open door - they'll fly away cos they're attracted to light.
