A shed question

Hi. Not quite a gardening question, but I don't know where else on your website to ask this. If I were to buy a wooden or metal shed, or a polythene greenhouse, how would I anchor it to the ground if I put it on hard standing? I would worry that it might blow over in a gale.
Thank you
Celia

We have an 8x4 wooden shed on stout wooden beams and it has not moved in severe gales. If you put a greenhouse on the earth and put slabs inside you could anchor it to the ground - the greenhouse we used to have came with anchoring stays provided.

Our shed is screwed with long bolts into the concrete. Easy enough with a hammer drill to drill the holes for the screws. Only really needed if you live in a very exposed area, as we do.

Owdboggy does that mean the base of the shed is in contact with the concrete? Do you find the bottom gets wet and is hard to dry out - our wallhouse stands direct on concrete and the base is wet all winter.

Yes, I suppose it is, but as long as the timber was well painted with a good quality wood preservative, it should last as long as the rest of the shed. The floor itself is above the concrete, it is only the beams which touch.
The wood on which our greenhouse sits has been there for 16 years now.

That's good to know. I wouldn't have dared do it - glad it works.

Welcome to Goy,Celia..A wooden or metal one will be fine, just buy one with a floor to it,some come with floor included, depending on price..or you can pay extra....as for a polythene type..if you have a fence you could fasten it to,as we have done with ours, and put something heavy, such as pots or big stones on the bottom shelf,it should be fine..
