My camellia had buds when I bought it but they failed to open. Many of the leaves gradually turned brown and withered. I have transplanted it to a more acid site and await developments. What else do I need to do to encourage lots of flowers? (It is just starting to produce leaves again).

Hi Donkieder and welcome to GoY. If you bought the camellia with buds on and then planted into the ground the shock may have caused the buds to abort.Also was the camellia indoors when you bought it and, if so, did you harden it off before planting out. Camellias need neutral to acidic soil and should not be planted where the early morning sun can get to them as if there is frost on the buds and the sun shines on them the buds will fall off. You won't get any flowers on the camellia this year now, they form the leaf and flower gds the previous autumn. You don't say where you live in the USA but they are only hardy in Zones 7 - 9.
