I want to grow sunflowers for my daughters wedding bouquet, i have Suttons F1 Suntastic Yellow seeds but not sure when to sow them, her wedding is on the 5th September, I am going to grow them in small pots and then plant them out into a containers (can't sew them in the ground as my garden has so many slugs). I was going to sow them the beginning of May, hope you can help as this has become a family competition, who can grow the best sunflowers, and I would love to win.

Dividing the seeds up into several sowings two weeks apart will give you some extra insurance, in case the weather fouls up the timing.

In the past I've found Suttons give fairly good sowing information on their seed packets. For later flowering you need the later sowing - probably not for a few weeks yet but Tug's suggestion to sow more than one batch is a good tip for you - you could probably even buy another packet (or two) and go to weekly sowings of 8-10 seeds per week.
I wonder whether sowing one batch mid-may and keep them under glass might help to force the flowers - perhaps another goyer has done that.

Different varieties of sunflower bloom at different times between July and September, the seed packet should give you info on when to sow and when the flower is likely to bloom. They do fine in containers.
