I grew these for the first time last year. Should I remove the old leaves from these plants now as they are looking a bit tatty?

I grew these for the first time last year. Should I remove the old leaves from these plants now as they are looking a bit tatty?
You can certainly give them a tidy-up, removing any old flower stems and brown leaves. Some are evergreen and this should be all they need. Others die down for the winter and new leaves are produced in spring; again, just remove any dead bits around the crown. You will find that they start to rise up out of the ground after a few years and when that happens you just replant them a bit deeper.
