hi my magnolia shrub is looking bit worse for wear is it ok to give it regular plant food or tomatoe food or is there something better i could try ? thanks alison

I agree with Moongrower, also you could give your magnolia a feed of maxicrop liquid seaweed and epsom salts will help. Also take care if your tap water is hard, rain water (if any) would be better.

If you haven't got any rain water and are in a hard water area then fill a bucket with water from the tap and leave it to sit outside for 24 hours this will allow the chlorine to evaporate.

thanks its looking better already but then its not stopped heavy rain for almost a week in manchester and it likes rain water bet it cant believe it .

thats great idea about letting tap water stand i didnt know that , have bought a water butt thingy as we are under a hose pipe ban here altho if this continues we will be building an ark

If you have had the heatwave and drought it is not surprising. Better to water it well to start with and mulch with ericaceous compost.
