I've been trying to create a lawn. One side is very dry & the grass died. I've watered it for the last few day & dug it over. It is covered in roots. Do I try again planting seeds or give up

Thank you. I think I will have to put down gravel, not quite sure if it's the roots of the shrubs or the lime tree at the very back oh the garden.

Why not settle for a smaller lawn and grow things that are happy(or will survive!) under trees in the other part? In our last house we had a row of limes and the lawn started abut two yards away and was fine. I know a lot of people like gravel but to me its not as easy on they eye as a bit of grass!

Need to find where the roots are coming from. they will be taking all the moisture out of the soil, so the seed would not grow.
