I bought a Rheum last year which did quite well in a pot but only had a couple of leaves. Decided to plant in the ground and this year looking much better but the first two leaves were shredded by something. Caterpillars maybe? I decided to spray the next leaves with soapy water and they have survived, but with a few holes What might be eating the leaves do you think?

Thank you Botanic and sorry for the late response, no internet access for days, as often happens. After the rain yesterday I was out with a torch looking at the leaves. No slugs or snails on them but an entire army marching across the lawn!

Slugs or Snails come to mind as Rheum like damp conditions and to do their pests!
