For the past 30 years we have had what ee called a palm tree--about 8 feet high, slender scaly trunk and long "palm " leaves. This winter all the leaves fell off and I had a large stick. Now about six off- shoots have emerged from the base of the tree--all like small palm trees. What are these, are they of any use or should I just dump my long "stick".
Many thanks

Your long "stick" has died back to the base, and the new shoots are new plants emerging from the roots. Cut your "stick" down as far as you can without damaging the new shoots, and leave those to grow on. this is a result of last winter's harshness.
