Hallo. How great to have you there!! I have two potted Hosta's which were pressies from a very special relative. I've taken them for granted (The Hostas). I have just removed weeds plus moss from their pots but their new growth looks very healthy. Do I need to pot on or leave as they are. What is the best potted plant food to use, Please. I love them both as equal!! (They are both5 years old).
Many thanks
Ann

First of all, go up to your original question, click on the 'update' button and delete your email address.
Then, as to your hostas - how big are the pots and do you you know which varieties of Hosta you have?
it's not an ideal time to repot them but if you purchased a Hosta now then almost the first thing you would do would be to pot it on.
After 5 years they could be getting a bit pot bound (depending on how much root the had when they were potted). If they are doing well, I'd probably leave them until they've died back in autumn. Give the pot a good soak so that you can lift the Hosta out and, if it is pot bound (ie the roots are filling the pot) then pot it on to a slightly larger pot (about 2 inches wider).
Most hostas are unfussy regarding soil and will do well in a multi-purpose compost.
I don't feed my hostas but a general feed won't hurt - if you are interested in the leaves (apparently some people are) then use a weak lawn feed. If you appreciate the wonderful flowers use a feed with a higher potash level (the K in NPK)
