I have not seen any slugs this year so far but a great many snails, as many as 5 to every established plant can anyone tell me why or if you have noticed the same?

Not seen too many Slugs this year, though after rain I see quite a few small ones. I very rarely get slugs in my garden and not seen any this year, yet.

Hi Drc, at 1 time I never had snails in my garden, only slugs, then about 4 years ago, they started to bring their houses with them, nowadays for every slug I see, there are about 6 snails, I think off hand, I have seen about 4 slugs this year, Derek

I have found a lot of Caterpillars, esp those hairy ones, Garden Tiger. I tend to just through them over to the neighbours veg plot :)

Not many of either yet, the frogs keep the slugs at bay and I think lack of snails is partly down to the fact that its so dry here and they are hiding under the walls and rockery plants , they'll no doubt appear when I start popping new plants in the gaps after the foliage dies on the bulbs....

Slugs by me have a very short life and i know exactly why; Robins, Mockingbirds, Blue Jays, Cardinals & Starlings.

100's of slugs and snails of all sizes too. Mr and Mrs thrush are having trouble keeping up. The slimey critters go on a long trip or get squished under boot.
more this year than I ever remember before.

I haven't seen many either so far..a few baby slugs, but no snails. They are waiting for me to plant my pots up..slithering across the gravel presents no problem for them.. but I'm ready for them ! :o)

I hear runner ducks like slugs and snails, and don't scratch your plants up like chickens do. Mind you, that IS just hearsay, I haven't tried it.

Right so now we know where they are - all up in Seaburngirls garden... Thank you Sbg, you are doing a public service!

That was just weeding one border Bloomer, there are so many to each plant all hidden till I weeded.

My goodness,Denise..you certainly have them bad.It must be so disheartening, having to remove all those..Have a lot of your plants suffered ?.

OK, thanks to DRC too for collecting more than her share.A good plan is when they hibernate in late autumn you can find them in colonies. They are easy to prise off the surface they are stuck to and you can just put them all in a carrier bag and remove them to wherever takes your fancy. I regret to say I put two large bagfuls in the bin once on the grounds that as they were asleep they wouldn't notice. Haven't got a solution to woken up ones though, except pellets. Can't bring myself to drown them - daft really as its a quicker death than poisoning.

DRC are your snails still in the bucket or have they crawled away again??

13 May, 2015

They are in a wood along with another 3 loads as I could not bring myself to kill them. I really am over run with them like never before Steragram.

14 May, 2015

Oh dear. And they do come back again if you don't take them far enough away, goodness knows how they know where to go... Best of luck with that DRC!
