This year I have a yellow/grey lichen like substance on several trees and shrubs in my garden. They mostly face south and are certainly not in damp positions. I live on the North Norfolk coast so the air is pretty clean. Is it harmful and if so how do I get rid of it? I am not an experienced gardener and this is my first year of taking care of the garden!

Lichen is an indication that the air where you live is very clean as it won't grown where the air is polluted. You don't need to get rid of as it won't harm the shrubs and trees.
