John Innes 3 potting compost.

Doesn't this grow up to 12 metres tall? You'll surely need a largish pot...

Nope, he won't, Steragram - should be potted initially into something only twice the size of the existing rootball. These are very slow growing plants - but it will need potting up into a bigger container certainly every other year, if not yearly.

Agree with Bamboo over soil and them being slow. You can speed up growth substantially as they respond well to Nitrozyme feed and being brought in in early spring to leaf out early giving them a longer growing period.

I've got one in a pot with John Innes No 3. It's been there for 9 years, and is only about 2 feet tall.
It's a cutting taken from one I had in my previous garden, where it grew about 5 feet in 20 years.

I meant eventually Bamboo, but didn't know they grow so slowly. I will crawl back into my hole...

Shouldn't it be Ginkgo biloba? I think there is only one species.

Yea, I'm sure that's what the questioner means, so I assumed it was probably a typo

Isn't it supposed to be a useful supplement for improving the memory?

Ha ha, yes, it is Jimmytheone... although if you're on blood thinners, you can't take it...

Ah, that's what I should have been taking all along....
(Can't recall you ever being wrong Bamboo!)
