I have an Acer in my back garden. I have a south facing garden but I live near the sea and I think it got burnt off with the salt air just as the leaves were coming. It appears to be OK towards the bottom but I wondered should I trim off the long branches that have no leaves on or should I leave it to see if new shoots appear. If I cut the top branches off it will spoil the shape. Could I thank anyone who replies to this question as I am not sure how to thank anyone after they have replied. Thankyou Joan

Agree with Steragram but if the branches are not white and still look like they have buds on them then leave them as they will regrow later on in summer. A lot of people had trouble with Acers burning back caused by late frosts this year.

They do hate wind. They won't survive here 4 miles inland with little shelter. I would leave the branches for this year in case they recover next year, but others may advise you differently. They are woodland plants really. Thanking people is easy - just add your thanks or other comments under the last reply, as another comment. Everyone who replied to the question will be notified so they will see what you've written.
