i have a sunburst cherry tree which has flowered for the first time.i have just noticed that at the very end of some of the branches appears to be tiny black flies that seem to be in a sticky substance and the end leaves are curled,does anyone know what this is and will the fruit on the other branches be ediable?

Spray them with a soapy water solution, washing-up liquid will do.

It sounds like Cherry Aphid - the RHS has a page on this, so google cherry aphid and select their information. You will be restricted as to which spray treatments you can use because your tree produces edible fruits, but the RHS lists various options.
