I bought some Gladioli bulbs which were left over stock, should I plant them now or wait until next year after the frost?

Thanks in advance.

I'd plant them in pots you can overwinter in a greenhouse. If you can't do that then just plant in the soil.

My lovely old uncle grew prize glads and he always lifted his corms and stored them in his garage, maybe you should wait until spring and be safe, we might just have a winter like the last one !!

Would they survive after a year out of the ground GM?

You MUST plant them now (plenty of time for them to grow and flower still into autumn.) Without fresh leaf growth and more energy for the tuber, they won't survive. Even if you get no flowers (which I doubt), you will be keeping the plant going.

Yes MG, just keep them dry and replant next spring, he always did this and he grew some beautiful specimins, he used to have all the old glads with leaves still attached hanging on a rope from the garage roof, he would rub of the small corms and then replant even more the following spring.

Ah but they had grown and flowered then he lifted them, as I read this Alextb's glads haven't been in the ground since last year when they were lifted for storage and selling in the autumn. Think I'd go with Bertie Guest.

Thanks a lot for the advice, I think I will plant them now to attempt to get some leaf growth.

Got 40 builbs so should hopefully get a few coming up, but of course they won't all fit in the garden, but I have put some in.
