do you mean white like sticky milk or colourless like water? sounds daft but a lot of people will say white when they mean colourless. hoipe not offended you!
sticky suggests waste from a sap sucking critter like greenfly. any chance of a photo? try spraying with a mild soap solution to wash it off.
