I am sure the winter temperatures in Fife will get pretty low but, according to my favourite web purchasing site for plants, Crocus, alstromerias are 'fully hardy'. Down here in South Cambridgshire I have found them difficult to get established but once established they bloom reliably every year. I do however cover with a pile of compost to give a belt and braces protection late autumn. One point to bear in mind is when the flower stalks start to go off don't cut off but putt away and then you stand a chance of more flowers. Good luck with these lovely flowers......the poor mans orchids.

Hi, Alstroemeria are hardy down to 14f, {minus 10c} but are not fully hardy, although A aurea, and A ligtu and their hybrids can stand short spells down to 5f, {minus 15c}, and A. pygmaea and A. hookeri are best grown in an alpine house, outdoors they should be mulched for the first 2 years, and in frosty areas maintain a dry mulch in winter, they also dislike root disturbance, so make sure of where you want them before planting the tubers 8" deep, Derek.
