Not a question but a word of warning for those with big trees. Take a look at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/insurance/buildingsandcontent/11706078/I-asked-my-insurer-to-remove-fallen-trees-in-my-garden.-It-said-no-but-my-premium-doubled.html
I suspect that this sort of behaviour on the part of insurers is not confined to the UK.

Good grief!

I wouldn't worry too much. I had a similar disaster with a tree, informed my insurance company (NFU Mutual) but decided not to claim. It didn't affect my premiums. I think the person in the article was very unlucky.

You have to be careful of what you inform the insurance company of so they can't use it as an excuse to raise your premium. This is especially true with those bargan low premium house insurers, sure they'll start you out with a low premium but watch out if an occurrence happens to house or property.... Not such a bargan anymore.

Good (in a perverse sort of way) to know that insurers have same unscrupulous practices on your side of the Pond, Loosestrife.
