MY AMARYLLIS BULB WHICH FLOWERED LAST XMAS, THEN WHEN IT DIED DOWN, I PUT IN THE GARDEN AND
STOOD IT UNDERNEATH MY POTTING TABLE OUTSIDE MY MINI GREENHOUSE, JUST WATERING OCCASIONLY. THEN WHEN THE STARTED TO WARM UP IT HAS GONE INTO OVERDRIVE AND NOW HAS TWO LEAVES 12 INCHES HIGH !!! WHAT DO I DO NOW? I DON'T THINK IT WILL WAIT UNTIL XMAS TO COME INDOORS TO FLOWER. OR SHOULD IT GO INTO THE COLD GREENHOUSE?

This is ok. leave it outside until late august early September. keep it watered and feed it to help it form the new flower bud. I usually put mine outside during the summer and bring them in before the frosts. if the leaves die back just take them off.

When they are going to flower the flower bud is usually the first thing to appear. If you have leaves first I don't think its going to flower. Did you feed it after flowering? the best thing is to feed after flowering for several months and then around late summer to let it dry out completely until about December. Then when you start to water the flower bud usually appears very quickly. This is a bit different from what Seaburn does but it works for me and is also what Balcony does.

Hi, welcome to GoY, it sounds to me as if you actually have a Hippeastrum, rather than an Amaryllis, they're both in the family Amaryllidaceae, but the actual Amaryllis is native to S,Western Cape, South Africa, is hardy down to 23deg f, the 1 species is Amaryllis belladonna, {belladonna lily}, although there are a few varieties, they flower in autumn, and the leaves are produced after flowering.
Hippeastrum, on the other hand, has a genus of about 80 species, is native to Central and South America, and are mainly frost tender, and flower mainly from winter to spring, and the leaves can develop either with, or just after the flowers.
They are also planted differently; Hippeastrum is planted with the neck and shoulders of the bulb, above the surface of the soil, Amaryllis should be planted with the neck and shoulders just below the surface of the soil, Derek.
