The top growth of grass on my lawn is green. The growth beneath is brown. i cut every three to four days at one and three quarter inches. I also feed regular. what is causing the brown undergrowth. Thank yon.

As Steve says, probably needs dethatching by scarifying, particularly if you've never done it. This, though, could also be the result of drought - new growth appearing, with plenty of dead growth from the drought beneath. Scarifying and aerating best done in September or October.
