Don't know, its not clear quite what you mean, can you add a photograph or two please? I don't know whether you mean the top and one side of each plant is fine, or whether you mean your border at the top end and one side isn't fine... either way, need photo.

Do you mean the side of the lavender that backs on to other plants? if so they may have been growing up against it and cut off the light.
