My 6 foot sunflowers have had their heads completely eaten could a slug have done this ? I did find some slime on one of the plants.

That's a good point we have squirrels run along the top of the fence where the flowers had reached . Thank you.

Could be snails they climb up our hollyhocks and nibble away.

Snails are great climbers and are probably at least partly to blame. Squirrels don't leave slime trails as a rule. Could be a joint attack!

Hi could possibly be squirrels as well as slugs .Squirrels tend to take the whole flower head.
