Hi, my apple tree has a bad attack of apple scab. If I treat it when the time is right will this eradicate the problem or is it likely to return? It is an old tree and am thinking I might have it down altogether and start again.

Scab is an ever present problem for Apple trees, whether old ones or new ones. All you can do is collect up the fallen leaves and fruits and dispose of them, not on the compost heap. We just live with it so no idea what sprays to use. Bordeaux mixture used to be the preferred option, but they do not seem to make it any more.
I am sure that there are fungicides on the market for it.
