I have a stag's horn sumach which a few weeks ago started to develop its 'horns', they started to turn red, but they have all died. This also happened last year, but as it was the first time it had produced the 'horns' we didn't realise what was happening. Is it due to the dry conditions we have had recently? Our neighbours had one in their garden and that produced lots of 'horns'.
Thank you

The horns don't actually refer to the flowers at all but the furry/fuzzy bare stems in winter. The plant you have may be a male plant which only flowers but does not mature into the red vaguely cone shaped fruiting/seed heads.
