Thanks for your comments I attach a photo as requested Drc726 but in the meantime I have been a bit radical and dug it up and replanted it in a pot filled with fresh compost...watch this space...although any other suggestions are always welcome. Hope you get a revival Beattie!

I've also lost a newly planted passion flower this summer under mysterious circumstances. We had a three week holiday, came back and it had grown lots & was flourishing, spent a week getting the garden under control, then went away again for another week (and it rained..) and found the plant dying just as you describe on our return. I'm keeping the roots watered in case it tries to regrow but I'm not hopeful.
