Does anyone know whether the wayfaring tree is vulnerable to viburnum beetle? Its part of a pack of free trees we're applying for to plant in the local chapel graveyard, but if it is we can swap it for something else.

Cotoneaster 'Cornubia' would be a suitable substitute I think, Stera...

Super suggestion Bamboo - they are lovely things. But the free packs are of specified native varieties and although you can swap varieties between packs you don't have a free choice. I've chosen dogwood (no variety specified but everything on offer is a British native so it must be sanguinea)
The pack will now have bird cherry, crab, cherry plum, dogwood and guelder rose (taking a chance on that one as it does do well round here). The only snag is I don't expect to live long enough to see them in their full glory...

Ha ha, tell me about it - mind you, some of the things which are coming I'm jolly glad I won't be around for, so there are good and bad things to not having a lot of time left...
