Dear sirs,
Can you please tell me if this is Japanese knot weed?
Thank you

No, nothing like it, this appears to be bindweed. A real pain and a friend/foe for life, but not so serious as Knotweed, which has fairly stiff, upright canes with leaves at the top.

Insert canes or sticks where you see it appearing, let it twine up the cane, then spray with glyphosate. The more rigorous and attentive you are to this process, the quicker you will reduce (and maybe eradicate) the weed.

I agree with bamboo, its one of the convolvulus bindweeds. Treatment as described above too.

Thank you Bamboo and Seaburngirl for taking the time to answer.
I am new to the world of plants and gardening and will no doubt be asking quite a few silly questions and for lots of advice now I have found this wonderful website.

Thank you once again.

Drewy, I'm a bit of a novice too but I've seen it said many times on GOY that there's no such thing as a silly question. Welcome to a great website.

The only silly question is the one you did not ask when you could have done.
We all learnt by asking the 'silly' questions, just that in some cases we asked them a long time ago, before the Interweb thingy.

And not only did I ask 'silly' (meaning unknowing) questions years ago, I still occasionally do it now, even on the internet... but you learn a lot that way!

Hi, welcome to GoY, I started asking silly questions 60 years ago, { still do now and again } the only way to learn is by asking questions, {and hopefully getting the right answers}, never be shy at asking questions, if everyone new the answer to everything, what a sorry world it would be, so ask away, you may even ask a question that nobody can answer, but ask anyway, Derek.
