Please identify for my neighbour, is it an evergreen and is it related to the red robin. A flower or seed head can be seen at the back.

No, its not related to Photinia Red Robin. It appears to be Leucothoe scarletta - its hardy but doesn't like to dry out completely. Yes its evergreen, but like other evergreens, in a severe winter may drop its leaves, and in a pot, shouldn't be left to freeze solid for a week if the winter's that bad. Prefers acidic soil conditions, but seems to do okayish in neutral ph.
