Have some lovely black petunias in my tubs how can I get the same for next year ? Ie do they seed, do you take cuttings I had never seen them before and they looked very effective with dwarf conifer and white lobellia. They were purchased from a garden centre in a village we were just passing through (well you have to stop dont you, they need the business)

in the past I have cut them back hard, planted in fresh compost in a frost free conservatory/greenhouse with just barely damp compost and they came through ok.

Petunias are annuals. Yes in warmer zones they can be grown as perennials

They're grown as annuals here, but they are to some extent perennial - I had one bright pink surfinia outside still in flower against all that snow in 2010 - it made it right through the winter and lived another summer. So if you've room, Tercol, follow Seaburngirl's advice.

Purchase from a seed catalog. They go under the names "Black Cat" and Black Velvet".
